01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
While the idea of niku kappo often brings to mind a succession of heavy meat dishes, Nikuyoi in Nerima builds its multi-course menus with deliberate rhythm, weaving delicate dashi broths and seasonal seafood throughout the progression. Courses feature sashimi, comforting chawanmushi egg custards, and seasonal clear soups alongside the beef, keeping the dining experience balanced and engaging from start to finish.
At the heart of the meal is charcoal grilling executed with close precision. Cuts such as tongue, tenderloin, and rump cap (ichibo) are roasted over charcoal to bring out aromatic char, tender textures, and concentrated juices. On certain evenings, the course also introduces assorted raw or lightly seared preparations such as yukhoe and tataki, allowing guests to appreciate diverse textures and expressions of meat in moderate portions.
The meal winds down with seasonal rice cooked in an earthenware donabe pot, complete with fragrant crispy bits at the bottom. Guests appreciate the hospitality of having any uneaten rice shaped into onigiri rice balls to take home, followed by a gentle finish of house-made pudding and tea.
The calm, counter-oriented dining room offers sake, beer, and wine chosen to accompany each course, alongside fruit liqueurs such as Meyer lemon sours. Focused on evening dinner service, it is an inviting venue to book in advance for celebrations or quiet conversations over fine cooking.
